Real ale soda bread
Real Ale Soda Bread
A simple recipe that even the most inexperienced cook can make. Unlike most soda breads this uses beer rather than buttermilk to react with the bicarbonate of soda. Many thanks to the guys at the Lamb in Longdown, Exeter for this one.
Ingredients
- 125g wholegrain bread flour
- 200g strong white bread flour
- 6g salt
- 6g bicarbonate of soda
- 20g brown sugar
- 250ml real ale
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 190C.2. Mix the ingredients in a large bowl to create a rough dough. Tip onto a floured work surface and shape into a ball. Score a large cross in the top with a sharp knife. 3. Transfer the dough to a tray and bake for 30 minutes.4. Cool on a wire rack until just warm, then slice and serve with plenty of butter.
